Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe we are entering the month of March already! We have a busy month ahead of us.
On March 6th, we will have a professional development day and will also be hosting parent-teacher conferences.
The spring conferences are held so that teachers can meet with parents of students who have READ plans as well
as new students who have enrolled since our fall conferences. Teachers may request additional conferences as
needed. If a conference is requested, you will be notified directly by your child’s teacher. You are also welcome to
reach out to your child’s teacher if you feel a conference is needed at this time.
After spring break, our students in grades 3-5 will begin CMAS testing. Please refer to the schedule that has been
provided as needed. We ask that you try to ensure students are here every day during testing and schedule any
needed appointments outside of the testing times.
Beginning in February, Webster classrooms began implementing an AVID Strategy of the Week! The various
strategies focus on different areas of WICOR. Recent strategies include the use of Costa’s Levels of Questioning in
math as well as a variety of collaboration strategies. Students are learning how to collaborate together through
Numbered Heads Together which is a strategy that groups students and after collaborating different numbers are
called to answer questions for the group. Another collaboration strategy they have learned is the Carousel
Brainstorm. Students rotate in groups to complete a task that is posted. For example, in 5th-grade students recently
worked together to create math problems to demonstrate their understanding of Order of Operations as well as to
answer questions about a text in reading. Below are pictures of students in Mr. Hamm’s classroom participating in a
In addition, there have been some exciting opportunities for students related to digital learning. Fourth-grade
